Hostess – Brownies with M&M’s

Price: about 3 bucks

Description: Brownies topped with M&M’s

I don’t have a whole lot to say about this. They tasted exactly the way I expected them to taste.

They’re like Little Debbie brownies. The only major differences are the size and the wrapper.

The Hostess brownies seem a little bigger, volume wise. But they feel lighter than the Little Debbie Cosmic Brownies. I mean that with regards to weight in the hand as well as density-wise. So basically Hostess is bigger and fluffier. Little Debbie is tighter and heavier.

Also, the Hostess brownies have full size M&Ms on top. The Little Debbies have mini M&M knockoffs on top.

Hostess has a thicker, non-transparent wrapper. Little Debbie has the clear wrappers. I think the Hostess box is slightly more aesthetic. By the way, I don’t care about the wrapper differences at all. It’s just that the two products are so similar to me, that this actually stands out.

When it comes to the actual brownies, I like the two brands equally.

But I think Little Debbie is the better value. A box of 6 Hostess brownies costs almost three bucks, whereas a box of 6 Little Debbie brownies is about 2 bucks.

Nutrition: each brownie is 43g and has 170 cals, 7 g fat,  26 g carbs, 2 g protein, and 80 mg sodium

Bottom Line: Satisfies chocolate and brownie cravings as expected. 8/10

Campbell’s Chunky Soup – Beer-n-Cheese with Beef & Bacon

Price: about 2 bucks

Description: Beer, cheese, and potato soup with bits of beef and bacon

Two things stood out to me: the potatoes and the beer taste. For some reason I was expecting the beer flavor to be weak or absent. It is neither. The beer taste is strong.

The other thing that surprised me was the amount of potatoes. The potatoes tasted fine. I just wasn’t expecting this to be a potato soup. But looking at the picture on the front of the can right now, I see a cheesy potato soup. I guess the name of the soup is what threw me off. A more fitting name would be “Beer-n-Cheese Potato Soup.”

The only issue I had was the bacon. The bacon pieces were were flat and soggy. The texture sucked. There was no bacon flavor anywhere, in either the bacon or the soup. Maybe cubed chunks of bacon or ham would be better.

If I ever bought this again, I would skip the pieces of bacon. They weren’t terrible terrible, but they didn’t add anything good either. Mostly I would skip the bacon to save a few calories. Yes, I know it would literally be just a few.

Nutrition: 1 cup (half a can) has 190 cals, 9 g fat (2 g saturated), 21 g carbs, 7 g protein, 790 mg sodium

Bottom Line: If I craved a beer-cheese snack this would be ok. 7/10.

McDonald’s – Grand Mac

Price: About 9 bucks for regular combo, about 10 bucks if you go large.

Description: It’s a Big Mac, only bigger.

I only ended up at McDonald’s today because the parking lot situation where I originally intended to grab lunch was insane. And to be honest, I was expecting to be disappointed with the Grand Mac.

But I wasn’t. I even ended up getting another one for dinner.

Somehow the Grand Mac is better than being just more Big Mac.  Maybe I was just super hungry today or whatever. But for some reason it tasted better than a Big Mac. Maybe McDonald’s upgraded their Big Mac ingredients since I last had one years ago. Or maybe they upgrade for the Grand Mac. I don’t know.

The Grand Mac is a handful. It’s got a nice weight in the hand. I believe it has 1/3 pound of beef. It’s got larger diameter buns and patties than the regular Big Mac as far as I can tell. There also seems to be more lettuce.

I like the combo of secret sauce with all that lettuce. It felt like I had a tasty salad with my burger.

Nutrition: Didn’t see it on the McDonald’s website

Bottom line: I would buy this again. I actually bought it twice today. I rate it 9/10

Campbell’s Chunky Soup – Mushroom Swiss Burger

Price: about 2 bucks

Description: Swiss mushroom burger soup

Three things stand out in this soup: mushroom, sirloin burger chunks, and potatoes. Swiss cheese seems to be missing in action. This is a non-issue for me since I didn’t buy it for any level of cheesiness. And the soup tastes fine without a cheesy taste or consistency.

I wasn’t expecting a thick, creamy soup. But when I opened the can (see pic), the top was pretty creamy. From what I can tell, this is a case of cream rising to the top because the soup at the bottom of the can was watery.

This probably won’t be an issue for you unless you’re like me and eat it straight out of the can. I imagine most people will dump the soup into a bowl, heat it, and stir it before eating it. But for people like me, I suggest you stir the contents of the can before eating it if you want the soup to be uniformly creamy.

This is basically a cream of mushroom soup with mushroom, burger, and potato chunks thrown in. The size of the various chunks were perfect. I really liked the mushroom flavor. The burger bits were ok. The potatoes were ok.

Bottom line: It’s good. If you want mushroom burger taste but don’t want to be weighed down by an actual burger, go get some. I give it 7 out of 10.

Nutrition: 1 cup (half of a can) has 160 cals, 7 g fat, 16 g carbs, 8 g protein, 0.79 g sodium

Peanut Butter & Co – White Chocolate Wonderful

Peanut butter sexed by white chocolate. Ten out of ten. Give me some of that. All day. All day.

Really. What more needs to be said?

I only kinda sorta consider this a cheat meal. I mean, it’s peanut butter. There’s no problem with PB unless you eat it excessively (or if you eat the kinds that use hydrogenated oils, but that’s another topic in itself). The iffy part is that these jars of PB are blessed with white chocolate….mmmmmmmmm….white chocolate. So it’s the straight up sugar content that makes it iffy. But also, delicious.

The truth is I shovel this goodness into my mouth several times a week and I sometimes buy these bad boys 4 or 5 jars at a time. Usual price I see these for are around 4 to 6 bucks.

I just found their website @ (nice name) and I am sooooo relieved to know that I can order these online if they are out of them locally. Thank goodness. On a side note, I see that they have a Pumpkin Spice flavor. I so want to try that.

Bottom line: these are wonderful. Go get some. Or better yet, don’t, and leave more for me.
